The meeting of the Hooe Open Group took place on Friday October 12. The highlight of the meeting was a demonstration, sponsored by the marketing department for Gruyere Cheese; their representative Barbara Beevis gave the members a very informative and appetising presentation into the delights of this famous Swiss cheese, explaining the difference between mature and extra mature and the process that gives the distinctive flavour to Gruyere cheese. The members were able to sample the difference in the flavours and discover what this exceptional Swiss cheese can offer. Barbara also demonstrated the making of a traditional Swiss fondue, which was also sampled by the members. The meeting was graced by a number of new members, who were welcomed by the club organiser, Edna Wallis, with the hope that they would enjoy being part of this very friendly ladies club. The details were circulated regarding the Christmas luncheon, which will be held on December 14 at the Cooden Beach Golf Club. If you are interested in joining the ladies of the Hooe Open Group, just turn up at 2.30pm at Hooe Village Hall on the second Friday of any month (the next is November 9), where you will find a very welcoming group of ladies. Membership costs just £10 for the year and as a visitor you pay £2, which is credited against the annual membership fee. Hooe Sports Football Club’s game for last Saturday against Saldean Utd was unfortunately cancelled as Saltdean were unable to muster enough players. This Saturday, October 20, they play Peche Hill Select in the ESFL Premier Division. Kick off is 3pm at the Tilekiln, St Leonards. Just so that you ladies in Ninfield and Hooe are aware, Katie’s Bootcamp runs on Ninfield recreation ground whatever the wether every Saturday, 8.30-9.30am! Yes, even in the rain. Ninfield Bonfire Society invite you to join them for Bonfire Night on Saturday, October 20. Events start at 4pm with a procession from Marlpits Lane to the Recreation Ground. There will be Face Painting at the Blacksmith’s Inn from 5pm. At 6.30pm the procession assembles in Church Lane ready for the Torch lit procession around the village commencing at 7pm. There will be a bonfire chant at 8pm before the lighting of the bonfire. This will be followed at 8.30pm by a grand firework display. There will be a coffee morning on Wednesday October 24, 10.30am in the Reading Room. Coffee, cakes and a raffle with proceeds going to the Churches Together in Bexhill Foodbank project. Do go along to enjoy the company of friends and find out more about the Foodbank scheme.

Burlesque is next meeting on October 26, 7.15-8.30pm at Ninfield Memorial Hall. This will then be fortnightly until November 9. For further information, please contact Sami Guard on 893699.

Ninfield Methodist Church hold a ‘Wesley Guild’ on Wednesday October 31, 2.30pm. This is a relaxed and informal fortnightly meeting of fellowship. All are warmly welcome to attend.

St Oswald’s Church are holding a Bonfire lunch on Thursday, November 1 , 12noon - 2pm. No tickets are required and all are welcome to attend.

East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre is a registered charity working in partnership with Adult Social Care to provide a no charge mobile information and advice service for Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people living in East Sussex. The vehicle, which is funded by the Big Lottery, is equipped to offer demonstrations of assistive equipment and hearing screening tests (if time permits). The mobile unit will be visiting Ninfield on Thursday November 1, and will be at Blacksmiths Inn Car Park, The Green from 10.30am – 3.30pm. The bus is accessible to wheelchair users and representatives from both the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre and Adult Social Care will be available to provide individual information and advice on all aspects of hearing loss. The date for Ninfield Arts & Craft Exhibition has now changed and will now be on Saturday 3rd November. They have a number of ‘first-time’ exhibitors as well as returning favourites, so please come along and enjoy the variety of exhibits on show, along with delicious tea and cakes. Visitors are always amazed by the number of talented people we have in Ninfield and even more have come forward this year. A Cocktail Party and evening exhibit will be held on November 3 at the Memorial Hall, 7-9pm. Serving wine and canapes, ticket holders will have a more leisurely look around the exhibits of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition. During the evening, the village awards will be presented. Posters are up around the village.

Crafts for Christmas Craft Fair in aid of Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice.

Crafts for Christmas, Craft Stalls and Table Top Sale on Saturday November 10 2012 at the Memorial Hall, Ninfield. 10.00am - 4.00pm. Following the success of the Crafts for Christmas Craft Fair held last year the organisers have decided to hold another this year. This is being organised by a group of local ladies who are delighted to be raising money for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice. Building on the variety of stalls they had last year, this year we will be offering a wider range of crafts at a wide range of prices. In addition they will be serving refreshments all day. There will also be a raffle in aid of the Hospice. Last year they were told how much the day was enjoyed. Not only was it a good place to start the Christmas Shopping it was also a great opportunity to meet with friends over coffee, lunch or afternoon tea! The organisers are delighted that once again the Ninfield Scouts will be helping them. Last year they raised nearly £900 and this year it is their ambition to increase that figure. St Mary’s Church Christmas Coffee Morning is on Saturday November 24 at 10.30am in the Reading Room. Raffle, Competitions, stalls including Tombola, Cakes and Produce, Crafts and Gifts and refreshments. Come and enjoy some Christmas cheer and conversation with friends.

Ninfield Village Society are holding a Coffee morning on Saturday December 1 in the Reading Room from 10.00am to 12 noon. You are invited to go along and find out about the work the Society does within the village. There will be picture displays related to their work and some wonderful shots from both the Jubilee weekend and Carnival. Their treasurer Robin Goldsmith will give a talk on activities and progress made in Church Wood during the past year. As well as refreshments being available, there will be home-made produce for sale and raffle prizes to win.
