The Plotters association hold their AGM on Friday in the Jenkins Room of the Village Hall at 7.30pm. In the main hall, Dance Club shimmy and twinkle also from 7.30pm

Badminton Clubs meet in the Pretious Sports Hall at 5.30pm (Primary) 6.30pm (Secondary) and 8pm (adults). The club is open to anyone who fancies a game, so drop in and have a go. Juniors should contact George on 01797 252110 about joining.

There is a Karate Tournament in the Village Hall on Saturday, and Northiam Village Hall Trust have their first Boot Sale of the year on Sunday 12th January – open to the public 9-12. Please call Marie Edwards (01797 253264) if you would like to book a table.

The first Messy Church of 2014 will be at 4pm on Sunday – all very welcome.

Shortmat Bowls is at 2pm in the Village Hall on Monday, with Badminton at 5.45pm Zumba at 8.15pm in the Pretious Sports Hall.

The Historical and Literary Society will hear Michael Smith speak on The Amazing Exploits of a Great Explorer – Ernest Shackleton on Tuesday evening in the Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Visitors are always welcome at lectures for a small fee on the door.

Anyone interested in ringing the church bells would be very welcome on practice nights on Tuesdays in January at 7.30pm. Either turn up at the main entrance to the church, or phone Alan for more information – 01797-253580. Beginners or returners are equally welcome!

Coffee Stop starts the day on Wednesday with good company in the Church Centre between 10am and 12 noon.

The Footpath Group set off from the surgery car park at 9.30am for a 4 mile walk entitled The Mistress of Benenden, with a pub lunch at the end of the walk.

Lace Group now meets at 2pm on Wednesday in the Jenkins Room.

On Tuesday 21st January, Shirley Saeed will be returning to Northiam to run another Spice up your Life evening, teaching the basics of an authentic curry. Entry by ticket only - available from me – 01797 253375 at £5.

Rye & District Lions host their annual Nearly Burns Night Concert with Sussex Brass on Friday 24th January, with tickets on sale at Beckley Motors £6.50. This is usually a sell-out event so it would be wise to get your ticket early!

The Conservation Society will be holding their ever-popular Wine and Wisdom quiz evening on Saturday 25th January, so gather your teams for a contest! Call Mervyn or Lynn (01797 253443) to book your table (6-8 players) or register to join up with others. The cost is £7 to include a light supper and wine.

Showtimers are already planning their next extravaganza, and are looking for people to join this lively band. If you fancy joining the group, people are needed for on-stage, backstage, front of house or technical. Auditions will take place in January.
