Harvest: Great to see the school and so many other people visiting the church over last weekend to enjoy the Harvest celebration. Thanks to all the flower arrangers for their inspiring and uplifting displays. This is such a lovely time of year, isn't it?

Guy Competition: By now I hope we are seeing some impressive Guys popping up through the village. I wonder if they will wander about this year -! Douglas Moloney have donated some generous prizes – Amazon vouchers of £25, £15 and £10 – so dig out your old clothes and join in! Judging is at midday on Saturday 20th October, and you will need to take your guy to the village green (opp Northiam DIY) for judging and to wave him off to fiery glory.

1066 and all that: Remember the Battle of Hastings this weekend with the renenactment at Battle Abbey.

Flu: It’s that time of year again! Time to get your flu vaccination. Although there was some debate as to the effectiveness of last year’s vaccine, there has been a re-assessment of the vaccination programme, and this year over 65s will receive a different vaccine from under 65s. This is to ensure that each group receives the best product for them. Over 65s will be vaccinated in alphabetical order, with the clinic for those whose surnames begin with C-F on Thursday (18th) 2-3.30pm at Northiam Surgery. Just turn up. Younger patients of the practice who are eligible for free vaccine will need to make an appointment. Pharmacies nationwide are providing both NHS and private services.

This year’s good causes are Northiam 75 Football Club and an overhead projector for St Mary’s Church. You are advised to bring a torch! For more information: northiambonfiresociety.co.uk
