Macmillan: On Friday morning, you are invited to support the Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning. Northiam will be taking part, holding their coffee morning in the Church Centre (opposite Douglas Moloney's) from 10-1 on Friday 28th September. I think this is a charity very close to all of our hearts, so do pop along if only for a few minutes.
Dance Club: On Friday evenings, the Sequence Dance Club meets in the Village Hall at 7pm. Call Tony (253287) to find out more – the evening is 7-10pm with a break for tea and chat.
Badminton: Badminton clubs meet in the Pretious Sports Hall on Fridays at 7.30pm or Mondays at 5.45pm. Both are suitable for beginners or returners to the sport, and are happy for you to just turn up.
Rockitmen: Rockitmen return to the Village Hall on Saturday 29th September. Tickets are £10, available from Margaret 253112. Bring your own drink (although there will be a large drinks raffle). Tickets are £10 and the doors open at 7pm.
Footpath Walk: Join the Footpath Group on Sunday for a 5 mile ramble in Rolvenden. Meet in Northiam surgery car park at 1.45pm for a 2pm start at Rolvenden church.
Line Dancing: Join the Line Dancing Class on Tuesday mornings in the Village Hall – a friendly way to exercise! 10 – 11.30am
Thursday Seniors: Every Thursday, Seniors’ Club meets in Northiam Village Hall from 10.30am until 2.30pm. All pensioners are welcome, and free door to door transport can be arranged for anyone in Northiam, Beckley, Peasmarsh and Broad Oak if you are on the Rye Community Bus route. The cost is £8 and includes welcome tea/coffee, a freshly cooked two course meal, extend chair exercises and a talk/entertainment. Call Ann 252343 or Joan 252568 to find out more as a member or a helper.
Bank: The mobile Natwest Bank calls on Thursdays, 2.45-3.30pm in the Village Hall car park.
Harvest: Over the weekend of October 5-7th, St Mary’s Church will be celebrating Harvest. You are invited to call into the church for morning coffee or afternoon tea and enjoy the work of the team of flower arrangers who decorate the church every week of the year.
Money raised and gifts given will be in aid of Family Support Work, which supports local needy families. There will be a Harvest Praise Service on Sunday 7th October at 10.30am at which you would be very welcome. If you would like to donate a gift in recognition of Harvest, non-perishable items such as tins of soup, stew, beans etc, toothpaste, pasta, pasta sauce would be most suitable for the FSW worker to have ready to share with people who need them – there will be a box inside the church door to take your gift. Thank you.
Bonfire: Yes, as we approach October, we can start thinking about bonfires and fireworks! Northiam’s Procession will be on Saturday 20th October, and we are holding a Guy competition again this year. Please make your Guy and put it where it can be seen (safely). Judging will be on the Village Green on the morning of the Bonfire, with prizes generously donated by Douglas Moloney. We look forward to seeing an interesting display.
