Loving tributes paid to brave Angmering councillor

Nigel Nunn, a retired taxi driver, of Palmer Road, continued to serve the village as one of its parish councillors right up until his final week.

The 68-year-old resigned from Angmering Parish Council on December 20, having formerly been its chairman between 2007 and 2011. He died on December 27, surrounded by family.

Now, his fellow councillors have paid loving tributes to a man who was an inspirational figure who was ‘well respected’ by those who knew him.

Parish councillor Pat Turner, said: “He was an incredibly brave man, really, he was.

Even though he was really pretty ill he still kept helping the council and serving the residents of the village.”

Arun district councillor Dudley Wensley also paid tribute to Mr Nunn for his commitment to Angmering.

Mr Wensley said: “He spent a lot of time serving the parish on the parish council and he is the former chairman of the parish council.

“He had to resign obviously because of ill-health. He worked hard for the parish over many years and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”

Mr Nunn served as a radio presenter with the British Forces Broadcasting Service during his five years in the RAF. Shortly after leaving the air force, he visited friends in Littlehampton, and stayed down here permanently.

Mr Nunn leaves behind his loving wife, Jean, as well as four stepchildren and two sons from a previous marriage.

His funeral will take place at Worthing Crematorium on Wednesday from 11am.

Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to join the funeral. However, the family has requested that a donation should be made to St Barnabas House hospice in lieu of bringing flowers.
