Opera will come to life in Bognor Regis

OPERA from Down Under is to be shown in Bognor Regis.

Fans of the classical music will be able to see the best performances from the Sydney Opera House in the Picturedrome cinema.

Cinema operator Adam Cunard has signed up to take the next season’s shows from the word-famous venue from next month. They will be shown direct from the performances 12 hours earlier and begin on April 24 with La Boheme.

He has also signed up to show concerts by the La Scala philharmonic orchestra in Italy as well as shows by Russia’s famous Bolshoi Ballet company.

His enthusiasm for the live entertainment follows the overall success of his first six months of screening live shows in the cinema.

“The shows have been doing well. We’re showing Romeo and Juliet tomorrow (Thursday, March 22) and there are well over a hundred seats booked already,” he said.

“People like coming here because they say it’s like watching the shows in a theatre rather than in a modern box.”

The pattern of shows since they were launched last September has tended to be one each a month from the National Theatre in London, one from the Royal Ballet Company and one from the Royal Opera House.

“It’s nice to mix them in with the films,” said Mr Cunard.
