DOUBLE yellow lines will soon be appearing in many Battle streets and it is easy to understand the concern of local traders.
It comes at a time when nationally the High Street is decline and shopping patterns change as an increasingly car obsessed society puts easy and free parking as the highest priority when heading for the shops.
More restrictions, hot on the heels of increased car parking charges, cannot help.
But balanced against this must be the genuine concerns that have been raised about pedestrian safety in the town.
We have already seen a pedestrian seriously injured by a lorry and several near misses.
Traffic and parking have been key issues in Battle for many years.
Perhaps we need to be looking at more creative solutions to safeguard trade and the life of this unique historic town; perhaps even a mini park and ride service or a drive to encourage visitors from towns like Tunbridge Wells and Hastings to visit by train.
