Not only have we received news of a multi-million pound funding project to protect Rye and its coastline from the devastating effects of flooding we have seen in other parts of the country, but there was great news for many local groups and charities who received a boost from part of a £56,000 windfalls from the Sussex Community Foundation.

Those who have gained include many grass-roots organisations that form the heart of the town such as Rye Scouts, the Farmer’s Market and Rye Playgroup.

Fittingly, following the success of the 2012 Olympics, grants have gone to provide equipment and training for young people at Rye Cricket Club, Rye Boxing Club and Rye Bay Football Club.

If that wasn’t enough the future of much loved Rye charity ARRCC now seems to have been secured with the official opening of their new base at the School Creative Centre in New Road - a fine example of groups in the community pulling together to find a solution after ARRCC were forced to leave their facility at Rye Hospital .

Still on an upbeat note - hat’s off to Rye Chamber of Commerce for bringing some festive cheer to the town with their big event on Saturday.
