Observer Comment: A shame to see farmers' market closing down

IT'S a real shame the enterprising farmers' market at Parkhurst Hall has had to close.

The operation, organised by Stuart Wood, has run once a month for the past eight-and-a-half years and offered a good variety of fresh, locally-sourced produce.

Sadly, one of the factors here must be cost - quality local produce is more expensive than the equivalent in supermarkets and most people simply don’t have the amount of cash that they did two to three years ago.

However, that does nothing to take away from the hard work of all those organisers and supporters who kept the farmers’ market going for so long.
