St Mary’s School Wrestwood, the town’s warmly-regarded special educational establishment, has done particularly well, receiving a huge cheque for £17,000 from Hastings Direct and raking in £3,500 at its summer fair two weekends ago.

Pebsham School also won huge support with its summer fundraiser, bringing in a fantastic £1,800 to go towards new play equipment, which the school badly needs.

It wasn’t just the younger generation which has benfitted lately - Richmond Methodist Care Home managed to raise nearly £1,000 through holding a garden party as part of its 40th birthday celebrations.

Bexhill’s branch of Macmillan Cancer Support had a hugely successful garden event in the beautiful grounds of Whydown Manor, near Hooe, which brought in £1,700.

And in spite of Wimbledon, parishioners at St Oswald’s Church enjoyed bumper attendance at a party held in the church grounds, raising more than £1,000 for church funds.

And finally Ninfield Scouts managed another hugely successful jumble sale - £1,075 in total to go towards the cost of organising activities for the youngsters.

Given the current economic climate where people are naturally cutting back on spending, this is a fantastic result for all concerned.

It just goes to show that charity really does begin at home.
