Getting tough on crime

Crime has already taken a hammering in the first few weeks of the year with the Rye Police team gaining convictions and arrests for crimes including race-hate and violent disorder.

We are lucky in Rye to have a police team who are both effective at the sharp end of policing yet are so involved and engaged with the local community.

Part of this has to be down to stability. In the past officers came and went regularly but now those in Rye and the surrounding villages have got to know their local bobbies and community support officers and feel they are being listened to.

Rye police are doing a great job and deserve our full support.

All the more reason to ensure that Rye police station is protected from any future closure plans.

A big well done to Rye Town Council for taking a proactive role and leading by example by rolling up their sleeves and grabbing snow shovels and grit to help keep the footpaths of Rye free from ice during last weekend’s snowfall.

Rye Scallop Festival is just a week away now and we cannot remember such a packed line-up of events. We preview some this week.
