Development can’t go on ad infinitum

ANGMERING, Courtwick, Yapton and Climping residents have recently expressed their strong opposition to a large influx of new houses or caravans in their vicinity, and it is quite obvious that this sort of development can’t go on ad infinitum, because the amount of suitable land is finite.

It is like the historic assumption that the supply of trees in Sussex suitable for shipbuilding was unlimited. But they did become quite scarce!

Now, history repeats itself, by trying to exceed the capacity, not only of space, but of the necessary infrastructure which would alleviate local flooding, ensure a supply of fresh food and the capacity of the road network to allow a congestion-free transport system, not to mention the need for new jobs.

It is time to call a halt to the insidious process that is consuming our valuable resources, which cannot be replaced. It is necessary to adopt planning policies that are explicit, mean what they say and cannot be manoeuvred by developers and planning authorities, by ignoring objections which we thought were honesly intended, to prevent the squandering of our valuable resources.
