Development effects

In recent correspondence with me, the chief executive of Arun District Council has reported that West Sussex County Council, as highway authority, has assessed the transport evidence submitted with all the applications and concluded that the impact will not be so severe as to make the developments unacceptable.

I therefore read your article (Gazette, March 15) regarding the current road maintenance at Crossbush and the subsequent disruption caused to the peripheral network with great interest. Your story reported that the Highways Agency “was surprised at the level of traffic, adding that it was much more than had been predicted”.

Consequently, it would seem that the conclusions so reached demonstrate that the traffic experts have got their sums completely wrong and, as a result, are about to repeat such an error and be well on their way to causing uncontrollable chaos by proceeding with any new developments.

Until such time as the road system and infrastructure have been thoroughly overhauled, it must surely be premature to progress with any of the applications so far approved.
