Dicing with death

WITH reference to a 20 miles per hour speed limit suggested for Littlehampton (Gazette story, April 7), I would like to draw attention to speeding motorists at Beaumont Park, Littlehampton.

Most people, when talking about the zebra crossing near the Tesco Express store, consider it more dangerous than not having a crossing at all, as there is no red light to make drivers halt, and they just speed in either direction and don’t stop.

The pavement at the point of crossing is narrow if you approach from the Berry Lane end and you need to be on the crossing to be able to look right when travelling in a wheelchair, which is very dangerous.

It was probably cost which prevented a proper crossing with a red light being installed at the time, yet I and others would say that two-thirds of the vehicles in either direction do not stop because there is no deterrent.

If they can install a proper crossing for prisoners at Ford, why can’t they put one here, where one person’s life has already been taken?
