Did David Bowie perform on pier?

The now removed music time-line outside Hastings Pier listed the greats that had appeared such as ‘Hendrix, The ‘Stones, ‘Floyd – but did Bowie make an appearance that has slipped through un-noticed under his true name David Jones?

From the biography ‘Starman‘ (Paul Trynka, Sphere books) Davie Jones and the Lower Third – one of his early bands – spent the summer touring Margate and other South-East resorts.

In view of the status of Hastings Pier as a venue in those times, to have missed it out seems to be unlikely.

The year could be 1964 or 1965, it is not clear from the text, but the group had secured David’s services in mid-1964.

I have written to the publisher twice, once hand delivered, to seek clarification but without response.

So, does anyone know or even have memories of such a gig?

It seems to be an important possible link in Hastings’ music-history.
