Do you remember village marathon?

I HAVE in my possession a trophy (cup) engraved ‘2nd Prize Sedlescombe Marathon Race 1921’.

This was in the possession of my grandfather Albert Dengate, who migrated to NSW, Australia, in the 1920s.

I have assumed he won it.

I am possibly drawing a very long bow, but it would be interesting to discover any written records of this event for 1921 or other years.

My grandfather, Albert George Edward Dengate, was born in Westfield on September 20 1904, and my great-grandfather, George David Dengate, was born in Hastings in 1880.

I have traced our basic history in this area back to the mid 1600s.

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
