Government is failing services

A government think tank has reached the conclusion that the way to persuade teachers to return to the profession is to introduce flexible working.

Rather than looking at the causes of teacher burn out, they believe this is the way to avoid it. Do they also have any idea how difficult it is to construct a timetable around part time staff?

Then there is the suggestion that various measures including Zumba lessons should be provided to improve the health of fat NHS doctors!

Better to concentrate on how to reduce stress for thin doctors!

We are told more patients die in hospital at weekends, but then we are told the statistics are based on patients dying within 30 days of coming into hospital at the weekend!

Some pharmacies, we learn, may close as a result of government cuts.

Pharmacies take some of the strain away from the NHS, by advising on minor issues.

I certainly have found the advice of pharmacists invaluable, especially one who works at Tesco at Glynne Gap.

One thing which frustrated me recently was discovering that pills do not always have the day printed on the back of the foil. Now this may seem a minor matter, but if people can’t remember if they have taken their medication, the results could be serious.

We are told failing hospitals are to be called to a health summit, as if they are to blame for their inability to meet targets, when the government fails to provide them with the necessary funds.

Rather than talking about failing hospitals and schools, should we be talking about a government which is failing the hospitals and schools?
