I cannot agree with the report

I am not in a position to comment on the findings of the CQC, nor do I wish to do so.

It is reported that the Commission’s finding is that the home “is ‘inadequate’ in all areas” and it is this statement that I cannot agree with from a personal perspective.

My Aunt was a resident of this Home for almost three years and during that time I visited regularly (two or three times a week).

In all of that time I was acutely aware of the staff’s care and compassion (with a touch of humour) to both residents and relatives.

St. Paul’s has been home to many of the Residents for several years and if, as the article suggests, the “care suited staff routine rather than individual choice” and the home was as inadequate as is suggested – why have they survived as long as they have?

I cannot say too strongly how within the last few months I have been aware of a feeling of heartfelt empathy for both my Aunt and me by all Staff and throughout the time that she was resident in St. Paul’s she has been encouraged, reassured, comforted and cared for in a way that has also allowed for her own personality and independence to shine through; and when she could no longer manage her own care the staff gave more help but always respected her dignity.

My enduring memory of the final days of my Aunt’s life and at the end, will always be the tears shed and kind words said which conveyed to me how deeply they all felt for both the residents and their relatives and – I applaud them!

I trust that all of the negatives expressed in the report will not have a long lasting effect on staff morale for after all, what do most of us want from a Care Home?
