LETTER: Fire and vigour on major concerns

A simple question: Why does your newspaper have a section called ‘Comment’ adjacent to a photograph of our new Horsham MP, Jeremy Quin, when he never seems to contribute any comments, nor respond to any of the issues raised by his constituents in the following letters section?

On, later pages in last week’s, edition we see three further photographs of him, two where he seems to be doing little more than ‘glad-handing’ like some benevolent old patriarch.

Photo opportunities of little consequence organised by his party office?

Yet he’s a relatively young man, unhindered as his predecessor may have been, by ministerial office precluding involvement in some local issues.

Might we not reasonably expect a bit of fire and vigour and commentary on some of the major concerns of his electorate?

He is reported as visiting ‘three different small companies’. Good for him.

But what problems do they face where he might be of assistance? What has he learned which he will feed back for consideration by his ministerial colleagues?

An example might be that such companies may have difficulty in recruiting because of the lack of ‘affordable housing’ in the area. Has he gathered statistics on the very poor proportion of such housing achieved in the area in recent years?

Has he registered that this situation is unlikely to be improved by Liberty in their North Horsham development? Does he think his Government should take enforcement powers over developers in this matter?

I give this only as a possible example, but call on you, in exchange for the publicity he gets, to ask him to engage in the debates and issues in your columns, and even risk a little controversy.
