I was sad to read the third past mayor of Bexhill Peter Fairhurst had died recently.

I first met Peter when being involved with the celebration of BBX2001 (celebrating Bexhill being the first town in Sussex to operate the first petrol bus service in 1901).

Peter was keen to be involved and with the help of some of the students of St Richards school constructed a model bus of some proportions, which formed a major focal point within the Bexhill Museum exhibition.

A final tribute to Peter would be the structure of the Serpollet car, positioned in front of the sackville, which he had commissioned when he was mayor.
