Remembering the catchphrase 'Goody Goody Gumdrops' from Whirligig

Following your report of Mary Lestocq’s “generous legacy” to Rye Harbour’s RNLI Lifeboat Station, in memory of her husband Humphrey Lestocq, I wonder how many of your older readers remember his catchphrase “Goody, goody gumdrops!”.

Presumably he popularised it on the children’s TV series Whirligig; I didn’t at the time know where it originated, but we used it a lot in my schooldays.
