It is a story worthy of a film script itself - how a small group of determined and committed people saved a much loved local amenity from being sold off by Hastings College for housing and then pursued their dream to open a wonderful new cinema in Rye.
Aside from creating new jobs at a time of recession the new cinema at Lion Street will reinforce Rye’s position as a centre of culture and entertainment.
At a time of cuts and austerity this is something to be celebrated.
It has been a three year journey in which the Fletcher team have had to overcome many obstacles.
The end of that journey has resulted in Rye having a dedicated cinema for the first time in 42 years, since the Regent Cinema closed in 1973.
We would urge people to use and support the new facility.
We are excited by Battle’s impressive plans to celebrate the 950th anniversary of the most famous battle in our nation’s history.
They are already taking shape and hopefully the town can celebrate the landmark anniversary in style in 2016.
