Why the wait for Gun Garden action?

IT was back in the summer of 2012 that we first highlighted concerns over large cracks which had appeared in a wall at Rye’s Gun Garden.

It is not hard to work out the affect a landslip on the steep bank behind the wall would have on the main A259 road below. Not to mention the danger to families who picnic in the area and children playing on the wall.

Why was it more than a year before Rother District Council contractors carried out a detailed investigation of the site?

We now await the outcome of that investigation as more time passes with no safety measures being taken.

Check out the Christmas supplement in this week’s edition of the Rye Observer to discover more details of a whole magical month of events in Rye throughout December including free weekend parking, a Christmas Market and a grand procession through the streets of the town.

Finally we wish Northiam Bonfire Society a fantastic first event on Saturday. With the support of other societies there is no reason why this event should not thrive and become a welcome addition to the Sussex bonfire calendar.
