“The second day was a tough 7 seven hour trek up too Camp Kikelewa at a height of 3,679m and we are all starting to feel the altitude.

The third Day was a push up to Mawenzi Tarn Camp at a height of 4,440m, where we stayed for two days to acclimatise before we were ready to move to our final high camp at Kibo.

“After a six hour hike across an area of flat, almost lunar type landscape, we arrived at our final camp at Kibo at a height of 4,700m, ready for the summit attempt later that day.

“At 11pm we left the camp for a night climb. As we climbed the temperature dropped too -7 with wind speed of 20mph. We made the summit at around 7am.

“After taking a few photos, we then had to return back down, reaching camp at about 11am. After a short break and some food we had to trek down a further six miles to a lower altitude, as we were all feeling the effects of the thin air.

The final day involved a 12 mile hike down to leave the park at Marangu, where we enjoyed a well earned beer, and a much needed shower at our hotel.”
