Mary Hitchins, 2 The Old Hop Gardens
Things are already getting busy at the Memorial Hall. Don’t forget to keep the afternoon of October 12 free for the grand opening to which all residents will be invited.
Peasmarsh Brownies and Guides have now moved back in the newly refurbished Memorial Hall, and both groups have spaces for new members. For Brownies please ring Diane on 280257; Guides ring either Pam on 224739 or Dee on 260343. We are lucky to have both groups thriving in our village!
Our own Peasmarsh and District W.I. Choir will be giving a concert in Rye Methodist Church on Friday October 18 at 7.30pm. This replaces the concert in aid of charity which the choir usually gives in May which had to be postponed this year. Do support these talented ladies and their conductor, Lois Benton. This year the proceeds will go to our Community First Responders who are doing such valuable work in the area.
It looks as if plans for a Scratch performance of part of Handel’s Messiah in the church in November may have to be abandoned unless the group can find a few more gentlemen to join them. There is plenty of interest from choral singers in the neighbourhood to join in on the day, but the object of the exercise (beyond showcasing the new organ) was to give less experienced singers who would like to “give it a go” a chance to participate, and an enthusiastic group has already started to familiarise itself with the music – but men are needed ! Don’t be shy. If you find it doesn’t work for you, no-one will mind if you drop out. To find out more contact Yvonne Jordan (230693) or Jenny Als (230324).
Sadly now back to a familiar topic - dog mess. We now have two dog bins in the village; there is really no excuse to not pick up your dog’s doings and dispose of them in the correct way.
The Rye branch of the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) has a new selection of Autumn and Spring courses just starting up in Rye; these range from Practical Gardening to Creative Writing and various History courses . There are some day courses as well as weekly or monthly ones - please contact Andrew Stuart on 01797 223831 or Gill Bartholomew on 01580 764465 for more information.
