Pensioner's arm broken in 'brutal' Wick robbery

POLICE have described as "brutal, violent and cowardly" a robbery of an elderly woman in which she suffered abroken arm.

The robber grabbed the pensioner's handbag, causing her to fall over, as she walked along an alleyway between Kent Road and Hampton Place, Wick, at about 1.15pm on Saturday.

He or she then ran off toward Kent Road.

People living nearby went to help the 82-year-old victim and alerted the police.

A dog unit was called out to help other officers searching the area for the robber and the stolen bag.

So far, nothing has been found. The handbag contained personal items and a small amount of cash.

The police are appealing for any witnesses to the robbery to come

forward, especially if they saw someone running from the area with a handbag.

Det Sgt Ruth Eady said: "This was a brutal, violent and cowardly attack

which unfortunately has led to an injury to the victim.

"I am eager to identify the person responsible and would urge anyone who

saw anything suspicious in the Kent Road area, at or around that time, to come forward and contact Littlehampton CID on 0845 60 70 999, quoting serial 1016."
