A Hastings woman has sent out a message of thanks to the honest person who found and handed in her handbag after she left it at Ravenside shopping centre.

Helen Cannon explained: “Last Wednesday’s shopping trip nearly turned into a nightmare when I arrived home only to realise I didn’t have my handbag with me - oh that sinking feeling!

“I searched the car, but nothing. I felt sick, realising I must have left my handbag somewhere at Ravenside shopping centre .

“My whole life was in there - iPhone , bank cards, even my passport.

“I decided to go back and look, imagining my attempt would be futile. It’s Christmas and so many have experienced hardship, but I would try to retrace my steps.

“I drove to the area where I left my trolly. The trolly man was collecting at the time so I asked him if he had seen my handbag . “No” he hadn’t came his answer.

“As I had been shopping at B&M I went in and asked the assistant who served me if I had left my handbag there . He called another assistant over and after taking a description went off to look, while I sent up a silent prayer in the meantime. “Unfortunately not” came the answer but the kind and astute young man who served me gave me the store number and suggested I phone next day - just in case.

“He then suggested that I should try neighbouring stores with security on the door .

“I tried Tesco’s which adjoins. With a heavy heart I asked the security lady at the door if a handbag had been handed in . “Yes” she said . But you will have to give your name to make sure it matches the information in the bag .

“There it was, everything intact. I was so lucky and just before Christmas too.

“Apparently a kind lady had handed it in. She didn’t give her name but whoever she is I want to thank her for being such a Good Samaritan.”
