June Harvey braved the shave earlier this month and is thrilled to have raised more than £1,500 for St Catherine’s Hospice which is providing June’s mum, Rosemary, and all her family with vital support.

June said: “St Catherine’s isn’t just looking after my lovely mum, they’re also taking care of me and our entire family.

“I was a little nervous before my head shave started but I felt excited too. I’m glad to be able to raise money and give something back to St Catherine’s for all the support they give to poorly people and their families, not just ours, but others in the community too.

“Their support has made a big difference to us at a difficult time. When I call the hospice, nothing is ever too much trouble. We always get excellent help whenever we need it.”

June’s sons were responsible for loping off her locks as her family watched from a safe distance in her garden.

June said: “I felt really emotional during the head shave and it was extra special to have my mum there watching it too.”

This isn’t the first time June has shaved her head. She did one three years ago to raise money for Macmillan so was confident she could raise a good amount again.

Arron Trott, events fundraiser at St Catherine’s, said: “We’re so grateful to June for taking on such a brilliantly brave challenge for us, and we’re so glad we can be there to support her, her mum and family.

“It’s only thanks to the support of people like June that we can be here to provide local people with hospice care when it’s needed most.

“We’ve never needed our community’s support more than now, and the money June has raised will make a big difference.
