The chairman and scout leaders paraded from the scout headquarters to the village, where they laid wreaths and held a brief service to commemorate all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts since World War I.

The service included a short script marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, remembering not just the Few, but the very many on the home front that provided the support to those who fought in the skies.

However several people from the village stood nearby and observed the ceremony, a spokesman said.
