Following a sell-out Christmas party, the Milestone Big Band has donated £500 to The Phoenix Stroke Club in Horsham.

After a three-year gap due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Milestone Big Band was back performing its annual Christmas fundraising party at the Drill Hall, Horsham in December. Each year the band holds a raffle and this year selected The Phoenix Stroke Club as the recipient of a significant proportion of raffle ticket sales.

Attending the event were Lesley Niven and Don Burstow, trustees of the charity. They gave a short talk about how the club supports over 50 stroke club members from Horsham and the surrounding areas.

Commenting on the night, Lesley said: “We had a great evening of dancing and music, and we are delighted the Milestone Big Band chose to make this generous donation to The Phoenix Stroke Club.”

Mike Wilson, Musical Director of the Band said: “We could not have raised so much money without the huge generosity of so many local organisations who donated prizes for the raffle. These include The Gin Kitchen, Watermill Jazz, Inner Art Studios, Tina Glynn Therapies, Lavender Lime, and Dorking Halls, as well as Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and the 99 Comedy Club in London.”

Kathryn Shackleton from Watermill Jazz said: “We were very happy to donate a raffle prize to support the Milestone Big Band and The Phoenix Stroke Club, to raise funds for a cause that is so close to the hearts of so many people.”

The music of The Milestone Big Band can be next enjoyed on 31 January at The Tythe Barn, Burford Bridge Hotel RH5 6BX between 8-10pm.
