Restaurants gear up for Rye Bay Scallop Week 2018

The 16th annual Rye Bay Scallop Week is set to return this weekend.

Starting this evening, guests can indulge in seafood delights while enjoying more than 400 years of music of the sea.

Rye Bay Crew will be returning for their fifth year of A Serving of Scallops and Shanties, at the Queen’s Head, Landgate, Rye, tonight and Saturday, as well as Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Firmly established in the Rye music scene, Rye Bay Crew are a flexible group of musicians, some classically trained, others from a traditional folk background, plus a master-shipwright and mariner, to bring guests authentic music from Elizabethan times to the current day while they enjoy a scallop starter and fish pie main course, all for just £25 per ticket.

During Rye Bay Scallop Week, The Lodge at Winchelsea, in Hastings Road, Winchelsea, will be showcasing an array of different scallop dishes.

There will also be scallop events including tasting events, cookery schools and demonstrations, live music and much more.

Other restaurants will also be showcasing an array of different scallop dishes until the events draw to a close on Sunday, March 4.

The International Food Market will also be returning as part of the scallop week for two days.

Flavours of the World, which will set up on Strand Quay on February 24 and 25, comprises up to 20 carefully-selected international stalls with traders selling top quality artisan-produced foods and craft products from around the world.

A spokesman for the market said: “The organisers have worked hard to create an international atmosphere so people can enjoy exotic flavours and unusual aromas and delight in products they might not otherwise see or buy everyday.”
