This is how you can help Tilgate Nature Centre name their new baby capybara

If you’ve visited Tilgate Nature Centre over the past months, you might have been lucky enough to see the baby capybara.

The little one was born on June 1, to first-time parents Carol and Clarence who have taken to parenthood just like a capybara to water.

The trio are enjoying spending time together in their paddock, often seen splashing around in the water together or having a cuddle in the shade. The baby is also very keen on getting head scratches from the keepers, but she still doesn’t have a name!

The Crawley Borough Council-owned centre is throwing open the chance to name the pup.

Cabinet member for Leisure and Wellbeing, Councillor Chris Mullins, said: “I’m sure Tilgate’s visitors have been as charmed by the capybara pup as I was, so we hope she’ll have a name that really suits her chosen by the public.”

Over the last few months the centre has been asking visitors to suggest names for her, all beginning with the letter ‘C’.

The keepers have created a shortlist, and it is being put to the public vote. Choose from:
