Walkers enjoying a peaceful stroll along Bexhill seafront were given a fright earlier this week when an RAF helicopter flew low over their heads.

The 27 Sqn Chinook, based at RAF Odiham, flew past on Monday afternoon (March 1) and was captured by Sean Cassidy.

Asking whether the aircraft could have got any lower to the ground, he said it alarmed a number of people out enjoying a stroll along the seafront.

An RAF spokesman said: “A 27 Sqn Chinook, from RAF Odiham, Hants conducting essential pre-deployment training, including low level flight, routed from Hastings to Lewes on Monday afternoon.

“We recognise that low flying can be unpopular but it remains an essential part of our training to ensure our crews remain ready for global operations.”

Chinooks are regularly seen flying over Bexhill seafront, but rarely as low as seen on Monday afternoon.

The tandem-rotor fleet of aircraft is operated by the Royal Air Force.
