The refreshments were available at the My Sister’s House women’s centre office in London Road last Saturday.

Julie Budge, a founder of the community initiative, said: “It was a really good day. We had 12 adults and four children come along and sold £100 of items from our upcycled team.

“We also gained a volunteer and two potential clients, all in three hours.”

Hundreds of leaflets about the centre were also handed out in the town centre and 24 cupcakes donated by Cake Magic were quickly devoured.

“It would have been nice to have held an International Women’s Day event like those in previous years in the town,” said Julie.

“But we are so busy seeing clients and with our work on the women’s centre that it was just not possible. I’m sure the event will be back again next year.”
