Well the weather forecast wasn’t great even though the morning was bright and sunny. For a while it looked as if the flower Ssow might have escaped the rain completely but it was not to be! Around 2.30pm the heavens opened and the marquee, the tea tent, and the pavilion, not to mention the bright orange gazebo that housed Pett WI’s stand, seemed to be the most popular places as people sheltered from the elements.

Still it didn’t last long, the sun soon came out and normal service was resumed. Once again the committee excelled itself and put on a thoroughly enjoyable show.

Did you know that the Pett Level Preservation Trust was set up in 1973? This was the year when the UK formally became a member of the EEC, there were IRA bombs in London and VAT was introduced. And while all this was happening the trust was set up and acquired the land around Toot Rock.

To celebrate this not inconsequential anniversary and to raise much-needed funds, there is to be a Ruby Lunch Party on Saturday August 31. The party will be held in the garden of the White House, Pett Level. The tickets at £10 each will include lunch and a glass of wine and are available to Pett Levellers and non-Pett Levellers alike. There will be a raffle and a table-tennis competition as well as information on the Trust’s future plans. For tickets please contact Angela Hawksley on 812705 or [email protected]
