Did you know that Pett WI is 95 this year? The WI originated in Canada in 1897 with the first British Women’s Institute being formed in 1915 and Pett following just two years later. Sadly over the years the numbers have shrunk and now there are just 17 members left but that did not stop them, in conjunction with Pett Church, organising a Jubilee Lunch for more that 150 people, young and old, which turned out to be a resounding success!

The members are now determined that Pett WI should reach its centenary in just five years’ time but they will not be able to do that without the help of the women of Pett and the surrounding areas. Whatever perception you may have of the WI, just look at what is in store at a local level. In the coming months education days held throughout the county include: ‘Emails Explained’, ‘Talking for the Terrified’, learning to play croquet and outdoor bowls, a visit to Buckingham Palace and a golf tournament. Two new WI’s recently opened in Ore and St Leonards, the latter you may have seen recently on the local news, creating a garden on waste ground. So it’s not all Jam and Jerusalem!

Pett WI wants to find out what sort of WI local women want – afternoon or evening meetings? What sort of speakers? Hands-on days learning new skills?

So why not go along to next meeting for an interesting afternoon and a delicious tea and find out a bit more?
