Children’s cartoon character Captain Pugwash has commandeered the main booking hall at a railway station.

The Captain Pugwash exhibition was officially opened on Thursday, July 30, by Rye mayor Bernadine Fiddimore.

Organised by Kevin Barry, Sussex Community Rail Partnership’s rail development officer for the Marshlink line, based at Rye station, the event was hailed a success.

“Captain Pugwash was created by John Ryan, who lived here in Rye,” said Kevin.

“We had a great response to the John Ryan memorial garden which we opened in April, and with the invaluable help of John’s wife Priscilla, daughter Isabel, and their family, we have now gone a step further and decorated the whole of the booking hall.”

Marshlink line rail partnership chairman Kevin Boorman thanked all those who made it possible.

The exhibition runs until August 26.
