Platinum award a first for Bognor Scout

A Scout has become the first in the Bognor Regis district to receive the Chief Scout's platinum award.

George Dyson, a Tsunami Explorer Scout, was presented with his certificate by Master Mariner Stephen Chapman in a ceremony at the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel in Walberton.

His badge was handed over in front of Cubs and local Scouters by Sue Phillips, the head of citizenship at Bognor Regis Community College.

George (15) had to complete a range of activities to achieve the required standard. This included gaining the Duke of Edinburgh's bronze award.

George, who is also a young leader with 1st Felpham Sea Scout Group, is well on his way to his Chief Scout's diamond award.

This is the last stage before he can attempt the Queen's scout award.

Another Bognor Regis District Explorer Scout, Matthew Baker-Irons, has also recently been awarded the Chief Scout's platinum award.

He is from the Arctic Fox Explorer Scout unit.
