Marion Lovell, Abingworth, New England Lane

First, my apologies for getting the special shopping in Rye a whole week too early. It all happens THIS week and looks to have something for everyone. On Saturday 8th, Rye High Street will be pedestrianised all day with free parking in all the car parks. Festivities will begin at 12 noon and conclude with the raffle draw somewhere between 7 and 8 pm. Tickets are £1 and the main prize is £1,000. Worth a go?

Cynical me wonders if the pedestrianisation is a try- out for doing that very thing more permanently. What would not be permanent though, is the free parking which is available on 8th, 15th and 22nd of December.

Rye Country Market will be open today - 7th- at 10 am until 11.30 am in the Community Centre, Conduit Hill. There will be a good selection of cakes, savouries, plants, vegetables, jams, marmalades, and chutneys. There will also be flowers, free range eggs and craft items.

With Christmas in mind, come and have a browse - entrance is free.

A reminder that the following week, Friday 14th December will be the last Market in 2012. To mark this, there will be coffee/tea and cake for £1.There will also be a raffle.

Rye Country Market will re-open in March 2013.

To bridge the gap between December and March, the Craft Stall has offered to make items during this period for its customers, who should ring 01797 280 215 to discuss their requirements.

While in Conduit Hill you could call in to the Charity Card Shop which is open from 10 am to 4 pm. Although you may well be sending less cards this year due to the postage costs, you will find a really wide selection to have a look at.
