Battle Post Office could be moving to a new home at Jempsons supermarket after more than a century of being situated at the Abbey Green.
The Post Office says re-locating the service would mean longer counter opening times and improved modern facilities.
This is quite a major change in the town
It is understood that only around 40 Battle residents objected to the proposals during a public consultation which closed on January 26.
But one Battle resident commented: “It is quite a major change in the town and will be much missed by myself. They have 2,000 customers a week at the Abbey Green location.”
Resident John Hill, from Glengorse, has receive written confirmation that the Post Office is re-locating.
He has raised concerns about Post office users being able to park to use the facility when it re-locates in the spring.
Post Office Regional Network Manager Will Russell said: “We are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“The new Battle Post Office would have four modern serving positions including two open plan, one screened and a Post Office serving point - a new concept for delivering Post Office services with selected Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours Monday to Saturday 7am – 9pm.
“This would offer customers an extra 38 hours of Post Office services every week including Saturday afternoon and significantly earlier opening and much later closing every day.”
