A pre-school and a cricket club are among the grant applications likely to be accepted in the council’s £99,000 scheme.

Netherfield Pre-School and Rye Cricket Club are hoping Rother District Council’s cabinet signs off their proposals at a meeting on Monday (March 13).

The Darvel Down nursery wants £3,000 to go towards maximising its outdoor space by laying a new ground surface which is proven to reduce the risk of injury.

Nursery Grants Programme has already provided £2,300 and Battle Muffins Club has pledged £250 towards the £7,800 project.

The grants panel, made up of district councillors, recommended approving the grant as long as the other funding pledges are in place.

The cricket club wanted £3,500 to add more natural light and ventilation to the pavilion on The Salts, costing £6,264 in total.

But the grants panel suggested cutting it down to £3,132 so its grant was not more than 50 per cent of the project’s total cost.

One other application recommended for approval – £22,000 for Bexhill Sailing Club – while Little Common FC’s request for £4,950 was recommended to be declined.
