Princess Anne was the guest of honour at the Arundel Riding for the Disabled Association’s (RDA) to mark its 35th anniversary since it opened at its base, at the Arundel Riding Centre, in Park Place.

She was welcomed by dignitaries from across the county, including the chairman of West Sussex County Council Amanda Jupp, Arun District Council’s chairman Dougal Maconachie and the deputy lieutenant of West Sussex Harry Goring.

Joy Leggett, who founded the riding club in 1979, said everyone was very excited about the Royal’s visit.

“Even the ponies knew it was a special day and were on their best behaviour,” she added.

Seven lucky riders from The Angmering School’s Lavina Norfolk Centre were able to display their riding skills in front of the audience before having a chance to then meet the Princess.

Joy added: “The atmosphere continued to buzz while other riders, volunteers and trustees spoke to Princess Anne who then cut the birthday cake and left leaving a crowd of happy faces to consume it.”
