Pupils get crafty at creating castles

SCHOOLCHILDREN from Birdham CE Primary School recently enjoyed an exciting design technology day, as they created working models of drawbridges as part of their topic work on castles.

They found out how simple pulleys work and used this to design and make their own castles with working drawbridges

Parents were invited in to help create pupil 
designs from a variety of different materials.

They discovered that string being wound on a stick cut to the correct size was the most effective solution for pulling up a drawbridge.

By the end of the day, 
27 working models had been created.

The pupils used shoeboxes, teabag boxes and Pampers containers to create their castles.

Mark McCadden, headteacher at Birdham CE Primary School, said: “Great thanks go to all parents who participated to make the day a great success.”
