Pupils pass drug check

THE Sussex Police drugs dog team checked pupils as they arrived at Ringmer Community College on Friday.

There were no arrests.

The routine operation was one of several organised recently across the county.

The checks aim to identify any pupil taking cannabis into school.

Steve Johnson, college principal, welcomed the initiative.

'Sadly, in all secondary schools now there are pupils who are tempted to bring cannabis on to the site,' he said.

'We aim to do everything possible to prevent this and we are determined to identify anyone who does so.

'Drug taking is the enemy of educational success.

'We wish to send a strong message that it is not acceptable at Ringmer. I am delighted by Sussex Police's support for our position.'
