Recycling site to help spring clean

The new site, which is operated on behalf of West Sussex County Council by its waste contractor, Viridor, is 250 metres (272 yards) east of the borough’s former household waste facility, which was in Dominion Road.

It is open seven days a week, including Bank Holidays, between 8am and 7pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday and Bank Holidays.

Deborah Urquhart, County Council Cabinet Member for the Environment and Economy, said: “The new Worthing Household Waste Recycling Site is ideal for spring cleaners as they throw out the old.

“Not only is it open seven days a week, it’s totally free to use all the year round.

“But that’s not all. It has a customer-friendly, split-level design, which means a significant reduction in queuing.

“There’s an improved layout for the recycling of electrical goods, including small electrical appliances. There are large containers for all categories – from large domestic appliances such as cookers, washing machines, dishwashers and fridges down to fluorescent tubes and low energy light bulbs.

“This is on top of all recycling services: batteries (lead acid, car and household), car tyres, gas bottles, CDs and DVDs, green waste, scrap metal, paper, card, plastic bottles, cans and glass, soil and hardcore, textiles, household garden chemicals and used engine oil.”

Last year the recycling rate in Worthing was 57.29% of household waste.
