Return of Rye’s festive frisson?

Since its formation earlier in the year, the Rye Christmas committee has been hard at work planning a revival of the town’s festive celebrations.

The team has settled on a Dickensian theme, taking inspiration from Rye’s Christmases past, with the main event booked in for Saturday, December 12.

But £10,000 is needed to help them realise their vision.

Jenny Sinclair from the committee said: “With lots of ideas and plans laid down, the committee is now seeking the funding we desperately need in order to turn these into reality.

“A Crowdfunder account has been set up for the cause and the target to reach is £10,000.

“This will help finance many things from the fundamentals like lighting and Christmas trees right through to some of the proposed features, including a street pantomime and an ice rink.

“Some businesses and local residents have already been kind enough to offer both monetary donations and a helping hand but there is still a long way to go.”

The Crowdfunder account will be active until 5.30pm on September 24.

Meanwhile, the Rye Christmas committee has managed to secure the talents of local artist Richard Adams, who has painted a piece especially for use throughout the Christmas campaign.

The painting shows a scene featuring the town of Rye, including familiar details and characters.
