Marcia Dart, Fundraising Team Leader at St Michael’s Hospice, said: “The wonderful members of the Riding Club presented us with a cheque for £1,000 following the devastating fire at the Hospice in July.

“Their generous donation played a role in helping us successfully continue to give specialist palliative care and support to patients and their families across Hastings and Rother.

“We also recently accepted another fantastic donation of £6,000 from the committee making their fundraising grand total an amazing £7,000 for 2015.

Everyone at the Hospice is incredible grateful for their continued support and for putting on such brilliant events, including the popular Ride and Walk which is taking place on Sunday May 22.”

The St Michael’s Hospice Riding Club was started in 2006, initially raising funds for St Michaels Hospice with the aid of Mr Auer at Normanhurst Estate through the Normanhurst Charity Ride.

This has now been running for nine years with fantastic support from volunteers and participants.

It was thought that with the loss of riding club activity in the area they would set up one which raised funds solely for a local charity. The club has activities to suit all ages and levels of riding.

Their biggest event of the year is the Annual Horse and Dog Event which is held in September.

St Michael’s Hospice is holding its Big Tea event on Sunday April 4 when people across Hastings and Rother will be hosting tea parties and donating to the hospice.

The event proved to be a huge success last year raising £5.500 for the hospice and it is hoped this figure will be topped.
