River Rother back on Flood Alert

A fresh Flood Alert has been issued for the River Rother this morning (Thursday, January 7).

The Environment Agency issued the alert at 10.20am after clearing the river of any alerts yesterday evening.

The Flood Alert covers the River Rother and it’s tributaries from Turks Bridge to the Royal Military Canal, including Crowhurst Bridge, Etchingham, Robertsbridge, Salehurst and Bodiam.

The Environment Agency said: “Rain early on Thursday morning, falling on ground which is already very wet, is causing river levels to rise.

“We are not forecasting property flooding, but river levels will rise quite quickly and flooding of low lying land is likely.

“The weather for Thursday afternoon into Friday is expected to be mainly dry. We are monitoring the situation closely.”
