FOOTBALL: The Bridge 1st team travelled to Division 1 side Crowhurst in the 3rd Round of the Birchwood Group Challenge Cup. The hosts had already dumped two Premier Division sides out of the competition so we knew it would be a hard match and we had a good chance to open the scoring after 10 minutes when Ben Hardy was pulled down in the area but Guy Ballard’ spot kick was saved by the home keeper however a cross by young Ben Thorpe 5 minutes later found Adam Hardy to head home. Both sides had chances during the half but Ballard made up for his earlier miss to double The Bridge’ lead with a great finish five minutes before the break. Ten minutes after the re-start Ballard headed home a corner which stirred the hosts into attacking but man of the match Michael Stone marshalled his defence to keep them at bay and a semi-final place was secured five minutes from the end when Phil Green tapped in at the far post for a comfortable win. Tomorrow the 1st team are away to Mountfield United for a Premier Division match K.O. 2p.m. while the 2nd team travel to Division 2 side Peasmarsh United in the 2nd Round of the Paul Mitchell Plastering Contractors sponsored Robertsbridge Charity Junior Cup K.O. 1.30p.m.
