Robertsbridge Market: is being held tomorrow Saturday 6th June at Robertsbridge Hall between 10am – 12 noon. The June Market promises to be another packed out hall of food and crafts, as summer finally seems to be arriving. The return of the regulars plus a few of the newer one – handmade children’s clothes, Alpaca wool and weaving, some exciting new savoury foods and cakes and the return of `About Turns` with their exquisitely made pens and wood turned products. Plus guest artist, Marianne van Niekerken who weaves baskets from willow, birch, beech, hazel, ash, stripped brambles and Siberian Dogwood to name but a few. The British Red Cross: is holding their information morning tomorrow Saturday 6th June at Robertsbridge Club. Go along to learn how to deal with an emergency and to be able to see how the public defibrillator works. All ages’ welcome.

St Mary’s Salehurst: don’t forget the breakfast at the Salehurst Halt starting at 8.30am. where Rev Channer will be the speaker.

Then this weeks Sunday services are 9am Holy Communion in the mission room in Fair Lane and then Family Eucharist at Salehurst at 11am.

Next week there will be 8 gardens open to the public in Northbridge Street and Salehurst on Saturday 13th June. Tickets and maps will be available from the Floral Boutique and Belle Flowers or on the day from the Salehurst Halt. The cost for entry to all of the gardens is just £5 and all the proceeds go to the church. If you head towards Salehurst last then you can partake in a Cream Tea at the Salehurst Halt, or coffee and cake if you prefer.

Village Street Art: is on display on Tuesday 16th June at 7.30pm outside the Robertsbridge Hall. This art is by the Young People of Robertsbridge, so please support by popping along to see what they have achieved.

Helping Hands: is about to celebrate its second birthday. This is the volunteer community group in the village and is going from strength to strength, thanks to the wonderful volunteers doing a huge variety of tasks. There have been nearly 400 tasks be done over the last year. The greatest demand is transport and more drivers are needed. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer for driving please contact either Sue Prochak on 881309 or [email protected] or Anne Wells on 880832 or [email protected] your own transport should cover you for this kind of transport and you will be reimbursed at 45p per mile. If you would like to attend the AGM it is being held at Darvell on Thursday 18th June at 7.30pm. Please let Sue or Anne know if you would like to go.

Robertsbridge Bonfire Society: is holding this months meeting a week early so it will be on Thursday 11th June at Robertsbridge Club starting at 8pm. The auction of promises is still in need of items and pledges to sell on the evening of Friday 19th June. Please if you have anything to donate contact Pete on 880468 or Eric on 880135.

Road safety: At this time of year with the lighter evenings and warmer days many children are out playing. Not all of them have road sense and in fact many are oblivious to the dangers of crossing roads or riding bikes in between cars. Please if you have children out playing teach them how to use a road safely. I have seen small children dodging out from behind cars or even standing in the road where I live. To car drivers please also slow down when in a built up area as the chances are there will be children about. If we all try and do these things hopefully we will all have a nice and safe summer.

STOOLBALL: The Ladies played at Icklesham on Tuesday[26th] with the hosts batting first. An opening partnership of 35 was broken when Mildred[12] was bowled by Abigail Fifield[1-20] but a second wicket partnership of 51 between Rachel[81] and Shona[13] was broken when Shona was run out and some good fielding led to Julie[4] also being run out. Home skipper Tracey[4n.o.] joined Rachel, who was run out on the last ball to end their 10 overs on 139-3. Our reply was steady but not enough to trouble the hosts score as Sarah Clark[7] was bowled in the 2nd over and then Penny Clark[16] was run out with the score on 36 however a third wicket partnership of 34 between Abigail[29n.o.] and Charlie Apps[18] was broken when Charlie was bowled. Clare Baker was run out for 7 and Jacquelyn Kuhler[1n.o.] joined Abigail to finish our innings on 90-4. The Mixed are at home to Catsfield on Tuesday[9th] and away to Civil Service on Thursday[11th] with both matches starting at 7p.m.

FOOTBALL: Robertsbridge United F.C. held their Annual Presentation Evening last Saturday with Justin Hardy presenting the awards as follows:- 1st Team Man of the Match Paul Barnes; Players Player - Michael Stone; Managers Player - Wayne Mewett; Young Player - Henry Jex; Top Goal Scorer - Dominic Whittaker. 2nd Team Man of the Match - Matt Winchester; Players Player - Matt Winchester; Managers Player - Matt Hardy; Young Player - Ben Thorpe; Top Goal Scorer - Ben Thorpe. The Football Club are grateful to Paul Mitchell for sponsoring the 1st Team and Jonathan Playfoot for sponsoring the 2nd Team. Chairman Alan Apps also announced that the 1st Team were the top sporting team in the Premier Division and were second overall just .04 points behind third time winners Icklesham Casuals II.

FISHING: Eleven days to go before the start of the fishing season so now is the time to make sure you’ve got your rod licence from the Post Office and your Rother Fisheries Licence, if your fishing the Rother, available from Alan Apps(01580-880877) at a cost of £3.50.
